It also has its value as a reference tool for authors, literary agents and others directly or indi• rectly interested/involved in t h e subject. The first point to make is t h a t t h e target audience is French. T h i s is not to deny that much of what is discussed has broader geographic relevance, nor to overlook t h e author's extensive experience of the intemational scene - which indeed enriches t h e discussion through much of t h e book. T h a t said, a technical manual to be effective has to be aimed at a spe• cific target and t h e o n e chosen by M Schuwer is, reasonably enough, French.
