Negotiating Religious Visibility in Digital Media, edited by Miriam Diez Bosch, Joseph Lluís Micó and Josep Maria Carbonell

Negotiating Religious Visibility in Digital Media, edited by Miriam Diez Bosch, Joseph Lluís Micó... (Barcelona: Facultat de Comunicació I Relacions Internacionals, Blanquerna Universitat Ramon Llull, 2015) 120 pp. €5.99 / 7.93 USD ebook isbn 978-84-944764-0-2.The editors of this book, Miriam Diez Bosch, Joseph Lluís Micó and Josep Maria Carbonell, write in the preface that when religious people look for their faith, they find themselves on the internet. This shows the reader the essence of their reflection. As a result of the Research Grant Programme – Aristos Campus Mundus 2015, this short monograph serves as an interesting introduction to negotiate the presence of religion in the contemporary digital environment. This collection of nine articles shows an important issue related to the accommodation of both religious institutions and religious groups to the digital world. These negotiations – as the editors call this process – tackle different levels of human agency, starting from the structure of religious institutions through religious practices to conclude on reinterpreting religious doctrines. From this perspective, the authors invite readers to look for both theological characteristics and practical applications that have influenced religious engagement in the digital media community. The book begins with a chapter by José Manuel Aparicio, who draws an analogy between virtual community and the theological construction of community (Latin communitas). http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Religion, Media and Digital Culture Brill
