This was, prior to the Qing Dynasty (1 644-1911), raised in opposition to the theory that the literature would excel in adversity (qiong er hou gong 弱而後工) and was denied usually. As early as the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Han Yu 挥愈 (768-824) , a founder of the literary movement for writing in classical style (guwen yundong 古文莲勤), raised the theory that the literature would excel in adversity in view of that many excellent literary works in the history of China were created by the writers who lived in adversity. He pointed out: lt is prosaic for the sound of peace while it is wonderful for the voice of anxiety. It is hard to have excellence with words of joy while it is easy to have excellence with words of distress.
