214 IA WA Journal, Vol. 14 (2), 1993 Checklist for preparation of manuscripts GENERAL INSTRUCfrONS D Start with a concise and informative title, followed by the name(s) and address(es) of the author(s). D Summary not exceeding 150 words, followed by 4-8 Key words identifying the subject matter. o Double-space manuscript throughout, induding tables, figure captions, and literature cita tions. o Leave at least 2.5 cm margin on all sides of the typed pages. D Do not use proportional spacing or justified margins. D The order of the text normally should be Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, References. In special cases deviations from these subdivisions (major headings) are acceptable, and sometimes further subdivisions within main seetions are desirable. In very brief communications there is no need for any subdivision. o Type major headings (e.g. Introduction) on aseparate line and underline. Type sub- headings on aseparate line, but do not underline. D Cite each figure and table in the text, and as far as possible, cite them in numericalorder. o Put a double hyphen between ranges of quantitative values, e. g., 4--10 mm. D Literature citations in the text should be as folIows: 1. One author: Srnith (1960) or (Smith 1960). 2. Two authors: Srnith and Gomez (1990) or (Smith & Gomez 1990). 3. Three or more authors: Smith et al. (1990) or (Smith et al. 1990). But give all author names in the References. 4. Multiple references when within parentheses (Smith 1989, 1990; Liu 1977). o Please conform to English spelling conventions for words like fibre, colour, metre, analysed, etc. REFERENCES o Citations should conform to the following format: For books, e.g.: Billis, W. E. 1987. Heartwood and tree exudates. Springer Verlag, Berlin. For chapters in a book, e.g.: Esau, K. 1964. Structure and development of the bark in dicotyledons. In: M. H. Zimmer mann (ed.), The formation ofwood in forest trees: 37--50. Academic Press, New York. For journals, e.g.: Bailey, I.W. & C.G. Nast. 1945. Morphology and relationships of Trochodendron and Tetracentron, 1. Stern, root, and leaf. 1. Arnold Arbor. 26: 143--154. o Do not use italics in the references.
