GENERAL Problems continue with the supply of materials from Poland, although the situation is now considerably better than in the years 1989-9 I. Hence, certain journals - in particular Tworc::;ofC - have not been covered for this article. Hence also, the inclusion of material published in 1991 which was not available in time for last year's article. On the other hand there has been a huge improvement in the production of books. As in previous years interest is concentrated on 20th-c. literature, though this year more material appeared than last year on the period prior to Romanticism. There were several general collections of essays by leading literary historians. Janusz Slawinski, Proby teoretyc::;noliterackie, Wa, Wyd. PEN, 254 pp., is a collection of theoretical essays previously pub­ lished in various sources 1976-87. Michal Glowinski, Poetyka i okolice, Wa, PWN, 332 pp., consists of theoretical-philosophical essays written 1978-88 which discuss the interaction of poetics with other fields of knowledge such as linguistics, history, music.
