Two of the five articles in the first issue relate to French (v. inf., pp. I39 and I 57). In No.2, J. Lough, 'Two more British travellers in the France of Louis XIV' ( 159-7 5), adds] oseph Addison and the Rev.J ames Hume to those studied in his book (see YWMLS, 47: I27). E. Kanceff, 'Le probleme critique du voyage en ltalie au "Grand Siecle" ', in Serroy, Ma;:;arin, pp. I 73-76, criticizes the very fragmentary interest hitherto shown in the great mass of I 7th-c. travel lit. available, while V. Amoroso, 'Les sources pour l'etude du voyage franc;:ais en Italie au XVIIe siecle', ib., pp. I n-8I' rapidly surveys some of the I 20 printed texts and 5 I unpublished MSS he has found of accounts of travel in and descriptions ofltaly, most of them dating from the second half of the century.
