GENERAL Quaderni portoghesi, Pisa, Giardini Editori, started publication in I977 and has appeared regularly on a six-monthly basis since although no issues for I979 have yet reached me. All items are in Italian and summaries in English and Portuguese appear at the end of each fasc. Both I977 issues are devoted exclusively to Pessoa. I978, no. 3, is a surrealism issue, no. 4 deals with the accounts of the Voyages of Discovery, and the fifth fasc. (the first of the current year) is due to contain material on accounts of shipwreck and martitime tragedy. Contributions are generally worthwhile and varied in approach. Cadernos de Literatura has been started by the Instituto Nacional de Investi­ ga«;ao Cientifica of the Centro de Literatura Portuguesa da Univ. de Coimbra. Its first issue (Dec. I978) was inauspicious but nos. 2 (April I979) and 3 (October) have contributions noted below. It aims to become an outlet for the more 'pro­ gressive' lit. critics. BEP, n.ser., 37-38, I977-78, has appeared belatedly and bears evidence of an editorial log-jam so that some contributions have been overtaken by events; C.
