Miquel Adlert Noguerol, En defensa de la llengua valenciana, V, Del Cenia al Segura, 1977, 109 pp., is hostile to standardization norms imposed from Barcelona, and argues, not without justification, for a greater flexibility with regard to Valencianisms. The phrase Turci katalani 'heathen/pirate Turks', found in Croatian texts from the 18th c., reflects the period in the 14th- 15th cs when Catalans throughout the Mediterranean acquired the reputation of pirates and slave-traders.
