GENERAL The widening interest in Medieval Latin cannot be capitalized unless we make the subject more accessible by publishing arts in journals like Latomus which are devoted to the study of Latin, and which appear regularly, instead of in journals which are seldom used by traditional latinists. Furthermore, some sort of policy regarding the ed. of texts is urgently needed. To illus trate this point from this year's work, I draw attention to two series, Toronto Medieval Latin Texts and Beihefte zum MJ. The Toronto series is inaugurated by M. Winterbottom, Three Lives of English Saints, Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies, 94 pp. (.lElfric's Life of St Ethelwold, Wulfstan's Life of St E. and Abbo's Life ofSt Edmund). The result is a clear text which is both academically respectable and cheap enough to be bought by students. On the other hand, F. G. Becker, Pamphilus (Beihefte zum M], 9), Ratingen, Henn, 340 pp., effectively restricts the spread of his book by cluttering up a simple 780-line text with pages
