GENERAL AND BIBLIOGRAPHICAL RODUCTION of research in Old French literature seems Pto have increased during 1953, but there is still a ten­ dency, perhaps regrettable, to concentrate on a few favourite topics. Under the title Romanica Gandensia, scholars connected with the University of Ghent have launched a new periodical for the. publication of their research; they hope to produce a volume every year. The Melanges offerts d Mario Roques are at last complete with the publication of vol. II (vols. I, III and IV having appeared earlier), and an interesting volume of studies has been presented to Professor Orr (Manchester U.P.). The important La Clayette MS., which recently entered the Bibliotheque Nationale and is now 'nouv. acqu. 13521 ', has twice been fully described (Sc, vii, 226-34 and Annates musico­ logiques, Moyen Age et Renaissance, i, 105-30). The MS., pre­ viously known from an 18th-century copy, is a 13th-century miscellany, containing saints' lives, various historical and didactic works, and a few songs. In 'Edition et codicologie' (Sc, vii, 125-31) L. M. J.
