FRENCH AND PROVENҪAL: THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY

FRENCH AND PROVENҪAL: THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY By W. G. MOORE Fellow and Tutor, StJohn's College, Oxford 'L regne de Louis XIII fut a nos peres un temps tres diffi.cile a vivre, incertain, contradictoire, et bien souvent decourageant. Les souffrances effrayantes du peuple ... ', such would seem to be the standpoint of the large work of V. L. Tapie: La France de Louis XIII et de Richelieu, Flam marion, pp. 561. It is planned in three sections: Declin et factions; Relevement; Raison d'Etat, and provides a new esti mate not only of Richelieu but of the recovery of country and people after nearly half a century of civil war. M. Mongredien has a vol. on Le Masque de Fer ( cf. XVIIe Siecle, 55-8), Lucien Febvre an article in Annates on 'Savants et metaphysiciens au 17e siecle', and Georges Livet some excellent pages on 'Louis XIV et les provinces conquises ', with bibl. and proposals for methodical research (XVIIe Siecle, 481-507). Since one does not imagine that much attention is given to this field in the Russian zone of Germany one should note the appearance of an anthology, Classicisme franfais by Ed. von Jan (Leipzig, Hirzel). Religious movements have been studied afresh. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png The Year's Work in Modern Language Studies Brill

Abstract

THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY By W. Since one does not imagine that much attention is given to this field in the Russian zone of Germany one should note the appearance of an anthology, Classicisme franfais by Ed. von Jan (Leipzig, Hirzel). Religious movements have been studied afresh.
