HISPANIC STUDIES: CATALAN STUDIES C. HISPANIC STUDIES CATALAN STUDIES By IG. GONZALEZ-LLUBERA the head of our review this year we record \vith sorrow the death of Prof. Antoni Rubio i Lluch. His name stands for a life of noble and disinterested labours in honour of the glorious past of his native country. We feel that if the future of Catalan studies is now assured, this we owe in no small measure to Rubio i Lluch's inspiring scholarship and achieve­ ments. The three substantial volumes of contributions from his disciples and friends, issued last year by Estudis Universitaris Catalans and Analecta Sacra Tarraconensia, provide most of our materials for the present survey.! They contain II7 essays in all, and five are by members of British universities. Articles concerning our field deal mainly with medieval history, art and archaeology, and literature. A few only are devoted to philo­ logical subjects. In the following lines the contributions to Catalan studies in the miscellany are mentioned according to subjects. HISTORY. F. Valls i Taverner studies the diplomas of Guifre I from a. critical standpoint,2 F. A. Brachfeld gives an account of the Hungarian count Denis in Catalonia during the times of James the Conqueror. E.
