GONZALEZ LLUBERA Language AT the time when Catalan is being restored to its official rank, rl.it seems befitting to open this review with the mention of Professor Rubio i Lluch's fine utterance on the unity of the lan­ guage to the splendour of which writers from Valencia, Mallorca, and Catalonia have equally contributed, thus constituting a legacy common to the three countries. The publication of the various dictionaries referred to in these pages is being steadily pursued.J Special attention should be called to Pompeu Fabra's Diccionari Genera/,4 a forerunner to a larger work which will probably become a standard source of reference for literary usage. A useful supplement to Meyer­ Liibke's etymological dictionary is issued by F. de B. MoU,s whilst special lexicographical monographs include a vocabulary of the Valencian flora.6 A. Griera contributes a comparative survey of the word capgros, 'tadpole', in Proven~al, Catalan, Castilian, and Basque.' In a note on the etymology of the place-name Albalat, the Arabic belad, suggested by Conde, is rejected. s An exhaustive repertory of varieties of the verbal flexion in the Catalan dialects has been compiled by F. de B.
