Editorial Art & Perception Art & Perception is a newly founded academic journal that promotes dialogue between the arts and sciences. Its purpose is to provide a widely accessible, peer-reviewed vehicle for disseminating original work from scientists and artists exploring the nature of perceptual experience. While much of the emphasis will inevitably be on the visual arts, it also encompasses works that address the perception of sound and music, touch and feeling, dance and movement, etc. Likewise, scientific studies on the modalities of audition, olfaction, tactility, kinesthetic sense, etc. are welcomed alongside those on vision. For many centuries artists have been analyzing features of perception, especially visual perception, in order to better depict appearances or more profoundly affect the experience of their audiences. Over this time a vast body of knowledge has accrued about how we perceive the world, much of it embedded in the works artists have made or things they have said. Many important contemporary artists remain fascinated by the workings of human perception, not least because they understand art is a highly sensuous form of expression which relies for its effect on the finely tuned stimulation of our senses.
