The volume is published by the International Monetary Fund which, accor- ding to Article VIII of its Articles of Agreement, "shall act as a center for the collection and exchange of information on monetary and financial problems, thus facilitating the preparation of studies designed to assist members in developing policies which further the purposes of the Fund". The volume provides a de- scription of the banking and financial system of some emerging Centers, such as the Bahamas, Hong Kong, the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Kuwait, Panama and Sin- gapore. For each of these Centers the book gives a general view of the banking and financial system, written by various authors, all officials of the International Monetary Fund, experts of the particular geographical area where the said Cen- ter is located. It also contains the texts (in English) of the laws and regulations governing the banking and financial activity in these Centers. This publication is interesting, essentially, from the documentary standpoint, considering the difficulty of the finding of the said laws and the usefulness of the descriptive summaries explaining the main characteristics of each svstem. The comparative analysis of these characteristics stresses the differences bet- ween some of these Centers.
