Sport events and institutions have an undeniably international character, but so far they have received relatively little consideration from international lawyers and scholars. This book, conceived on the eve of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games, aims to fill the gap, by focusing on several components of the subject mat- ter. After some introductory insights by Prof. Andrea Comba ("L'ordinamento sportivo internazionale"), Part I of the book is entirely devoted to the analysis of Olympics-related issues. In chapter one ("II Comitato Internazionale Olimpico"), Prof. Rosario Sapienza examines the structure and the legal status of the International Olympic Committee. Chapter two ("I Giochi olimpici"), by Prof. Michele Vellano, deals with the Olympic Games' legal dimension also from an historical perspective. Lastly, chapter three ("La protezione internazionale del simbolo olimpico"), by Prof. Francesco Bestagno, sheds some more light on the international protection of the Olympic symbol, by mainly focusing on the Nairobi Convention. Part II broadens the scope of the book, as it moves beyond Olympic events. In chapter four ("Le federazioni sportive internazionali"), Prof. Claudio Dordi analy- ses the International Sports Federations and their peculiar status in the international legal system.
