States with Muslim majorities decided to come together to defend the dignity of Muslims and protect holy places against any aggression. The main priority of the Organization is to liberate Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. OBJECTIVES Members adopted the Organizations' Charter in February 1972, to promote Islamic solidarity among member states. The Organization fosters coordination between Islamic states in the economic, political and social spheres. The members commit themselves to the protection of holy places and offer their full support to the Palestinian people to help them liberate their Occupied territories. They reassert the rights of all Muslims to self-determination. They have also established Islamic Cultural Institutes and Centres to spread Islamic culture and teach the Arabic language. The Charter of the OIC does not deal directly with the issue of human rights. The Organization does, however, reaffirm its commitment to the UN Charter and human rights in the Preamble. The OIC further commits itself to the protection of freedom and the adherence http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Human Rights Law in Africa Online Brill
