Gender equality ― wages ― interpretation of collective agreement HEADNOTES Facts District Court Judge "A", who works in the District Court of Kajaani until 31 January 2000, received a salary corresponding to the salary grade A27. The Ministry of Justice and the AKAVA-JS association, which is a trade union for Academics employed in the public sector, established a collective agreement which came into force on 1 February 2000. The agreement stated that new sal- ary categories Tl 1 and T 13 will replace the previous category A27. The district court judges were to be placed in either of these two grades. On 5 May 2000 the Ministry of Justice issued guidelines for the implementation of the new payment system. According to the decision of the Ministry of Justice, in the District Court of Kajaani two of the four judges belonging to the salary grade A27 were to be placed in grade Tl 3 and the two other judges, including the complainant, in grade T 11. According to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Justice, in a situation where the posts in the former salary grade A were be converted to both upper and lower salary grade T,
