Report of the Law of the Sea Institute: 1990―1991*

Report of the Law of the Sea Institute: 1990―1991* The past year's program of the Law of the Sea Institute comprises two annual confer- ences, the publications program and the Institute's program of professional corre- spondence, LOS Lieder. In 1990, the Institute's 24th annual conference was held in Tokyo with the co- sponsorship of the Ocean Association of Japan. The program was approved by the Institute's Executive Board, as is the case with all Institute conferences. The Executive Board is a body of 19 ocean policy experts from several disciplines (not only lawyers, in spite of the Institute's title). However, the two cochairmen, Professor Tadao Kuri- bayashi of the Faculty of Law of Keio University and Professor Edward Miles, Institute President and Director, School of Marine Studies, University of Washington, were delegated the major work of arranging the program. Thus the Institute gathered in Tokyo on 24-27 July 1990 to elaborate on the theme "The Law of the Sea in the 1990s-A Framework for Further International Cooperation." There could not have been a better host than the Ocean Association of Japan under the able leadership of Ambassador Shigeru Tokuhisa and his staff. The conference laid out in great detail the background and substance of Japan's global ocean http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Ocean Yearbook Online Brill

Abstract

The past year's program of the Law of the Sea Institute comprises two annual confer- ences, the publications program and the Institute's program of professional corre- spondence, LOS Lieder. The conference laid out in great detail the background and substance of Japan's global ocean
