During the past year publications have concerned, especially, • resources of the high sea, • rules about towage, • liability of maritime carrier, • maritime work contract, • coastal politics integration, and • nonvessel operator carrier. Five theses have been supported about • Columbian politics about space and resources of the sea, • international straits in the new law of the sea, • marine insurance and the classification clauses, • marine piracy, and • dangerous goods carriage by sea. Twenty theses are in preparation in the laboratory. The main activity in 1996-97 has been to prepare the Nantes-Ottawa maritime law symposium, which was held in Nantes in May 1997 about law, geography, and the economy in recent developments between the two countries. Another important activity has been the redaction of volume 3 of the treaty Droits Maritimes, which is projected to be published in early 1998.
