Herrera Member, Bibliographical Committee, United States The literature on the American Revolution, the War of Independence, and the Early Republic is, to put it mildly, massive. Historians, mostly from the United States, but many from the United Kingdom, yearly turn out new books and articles far too numerous to relate in any meaningful way. Indeed, the body of work is far too large to give anything but the most cur- sory survey of new works and those whose value continues after many years. Thus, a selective discussion of some signifijicant recent works, together with a handful of important older works, is in order. Conceptually, decolonization and wars of national liberation are most often associated with mid-twentieth century African, Asian, Arab, and Latin American peoples’ casting offf imperial dominion and gaining independence from colonial rule or dictatorial internal rule. Despite some broad, conceptual similarities, so fijirmly are these events interwo- ven with the period of the Cold War that they are only rarely invoked http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Bibliography of Military History Brill
