Space Law, Past, Present and Future The papers in this book were originally distributed at the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Delinquency's conference entitled 'Crime in Europe', held at the University of New York in September 1988. This collec- tion is being published as an initial step in focusing the developing interest in crime in Europe and in a European approach to crime. This selection demon- strates range and variety as well as several major themes and provides an agenda for future work. Part one is about 'Crime and Europe'. Crime is not a key issue yet in Europe, but it should be. It also gives an introduction of 'Criminology in Europe' . Part two is about 'Patterns and Trends'. In 'Trends in crime prevention in Europe' the author remarks that there is remarkable congruence between recorded crime rates in the major western European nations. Furthermore in this chapter subjects like crime in Eastern Europe, women and crime, drugs and law and ethnic minorities and crime are discussed. Part three is about 'Policies and Problems'. Fijnaut concludes that the internationalisation of police co-operation has made progress mainly whenever the security of the social order was, or seemed to be, under threat.
