In 1980-81 Solidarity was able to negotiate only two free Saturdays a month, not a five- day workweek (p. 25). Gierek was removed from power in S e p t e m b e r and not in Decem- ber 1980 (p. 68). Also, Gorbachev relaxed his média policy not in 1985, but after April 1986, following the Chernobyl' nuclear disaster (p. 158). AH t h e s e critical remarks do not diminish the value of this book a s a well-argued and highly provocative theoretical contribution to the study of Poland's économie develop- ment.
