The Improbable Case of the Seventeenth-Century Super Editor

The Improbable Case of the Seventeenth-Century Super Editor The article explores the relationship between Andrei Lyzlov’s History of the Scythians and the History of the Grand Prince of Moscow attributed to Prince Andrei Kurbskii. It dismisses the notion that Lyzlov was a super editor and argues that a common source provides the most probable explanation for the pattern of similarities between the texts. The evidence analyzed here makes it improbable that the sections of the History of the Grand Prince of Moscow devoted to sixteenth-century military engagements between Russia and the Tatars present the eyewitness testimony of Prince Kurbskii. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Canadian-American Slavic Studies Brill

Abstract

The article explores the relationship between Andrei Lyzlov’s History of the Scythians and the History of the Grand Prince of Moscow attributed to Prince Andrei Kurbskii.
