Abstract

Kitablar: Fransa The second article, "Village Studies", is essentially a series of thoughts on the books by McKim Marriott Village India and M. N. Srinivas India's Villages. It is interesting to observe that the authors evaluate especially the first book from the viewpoint of French and British sociology without taking into consideration the specific theoretical frame-work from which an author starts and the reasons why he did it. This is especially obvious in the case of McKim Marriott's article in which he experimented with Redfield's concepts of little and great traditions. The last article "Kinship" (p. 43-64) is a straight-forward critique of Mrs. Irawati Karv~'s book Kinship Organization in India. The criticism is sharp and to the point. Berkeley, Calif. W.
