PROTAGONIST AND AGENT I PATIENT We consider the correlation between the subject, which is a syntactical reality, and the protagonist, which is a semantic reality, on one hand, and, the correlation between the protagonist and the semantic reality like Agent, Patient, etc., on the other. In I, we see how the semantic reality protagonist is realized as the subject. Rere the "bias" is evident. The protagonist is not always realized as the subject. On the other hand, when viewed from the subject, another bias is evident, too. That is, the subject is not always the realization of the protagonist. Such a bias will be inevitable in languages. On the basis of it the actuality of the language will be seen. (There may be some opposing principles which are, occasionally, equally persistent, giving us somewhat inconsistent linguistic facts.) In 11, Agent and Patient as protagonist (usually subject) will ~e considered. It will not be unnatural for Patient to be protagonis~ when both Agent and Patient exist, although it is not general.
