The Books that Shaped Art History: From Gombrich and Greenberg to Alpers and Kraus, from the art publisher Thames & Hudson, charts this progress through the critical presentation of 16 books with publication dates ranging from 1898 to 1990. These books were selected by the editors, Richard Shone and John-Paul Stonard, as representing significant contributions to the development of the field. The editors are, or have been, closely connected with the Burlington Magazine, a journal that occupies a central position in art-historical scholarship. Most of the contributions are drawn from this publication and first appeared in a series of articles under the title `Art History Reviewed'. This parentage lends credibility to the selection of books, although Shone acknowledges in his preface that the final inclusion from an initial list of 30 possible titles depended on the writing http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Logos Brill
