‘More than the Sum of Its Articles’ LOGOS `More than the Sum of Its Articles'1 Publishing national biography in Irish (Gaelic: Ó Duinnshléibhe) is a PhD graduate of University College Cork (UCC), where he spent eight years as a full-time college lecturer in the Department of Modern Irish until 2012. He graduated with an MA from the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies in 2013. His critical edition of Párliment na bhFíodóirí, an 18th-century Irish-language prose satire, was awarded the 2012 American Conference of Irish Studies / Foras na Gaeilge award. Currently working in educational publishing, he has published articles on a wide range of topics, including postclassical Gaelic writing, in particular the period's prose works; Gaelic scribal activity in the 17th to 19th centuries; and Irish folk history and social memory. He is one of the founding editors of Béascna (UCC Journal of Folklore and Ethnology) and acted as its principal editor from 2006 to 2012. seandullea17@gmail.com This article concerns itself with the publication of national biography in the Irish language, concentrating on Beathaisnéis (1986­2007), a nine-volume biographical series, and its companion online database which was launched in 2011.
