The article studies a muwaššaḥ of Ṣafīaddīn al-Ḥillī in which he includes a short love-poem of Abū Nuwās. He does this by applying the rules of taḫmīs to muwaššaḥ . Al-Ḥillī embellishes the muwaššaḥ through several rhetorical devices, although he uses only those which could easily be recognised, even if the muwaššaḥ is sung. It seems that al-Ḥillī intended a wide-spread distribution of the poem.
