The Collective Hero-Victim in Desanka Maksimovic's Letopis Perunovih Potomaka (1976) Since the early 1920s, when Desanka Maksimovid published her first poems, well over six hundred reviews,-articles, and books on her work have been pub- lished in Yugoslavia and abroad. The most comprehensive of them, Pesnicko delo Desanke Maksimivie, ap- peared in Belgrade in 1973.1 This is one of the best and most complete mo- nographs on a single poetic opus ever published in Yugoslavia. With this book, the author Ljubica Djordjevic emerged as the foremost authority on Maksi- movic. Miss Djordjevid evaluates Maksimovi?'s poetry very highly: "Not a sin- gle poet has succeeded in following the style of her poetry. By its esthetic qua- lities, its pertinence to the problems of our times, and by a large number of poems of an anthological value, the poetry of Desanka Maksimovid stands above the opus of any other contemporary Serbian poet. For Serbian poetry, the lyrical opus of Desanka Maksimovié has almost the same significance as the work of Ivo Andrid has for Serbian prose."
