Abstract
<jats:sec><jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Thirteen species of Phycus Walker are recorded from the Afrotropical region. All the species are keyed and described. Antennae and male terminalia are illustrated. Caenophanomyia Bezzi, 1902, Paraphycus Becker, 1923, and Caenophaniella Séguy, 1941, are synonymized with Phycus for the first time. The following seven species are described as new: gracilis (Gambia), annulipes (Kenya), robustus (Nigeria), stylatus (Kenya), mirabilis (Rhodesia), flavus (Transvaal) and fulvus (Namibia). New combinations are Phycus rufofemoralis (Kröber, 1933), and P. kroeberi (Brauns, 1924); both were originally described in Caenophanomyia. New specific synonyms are: Caenophaniella nigra Séguy, 1941 = Phycus rufofemoralis (Kröber, 1933); Phycus maculipennis Kröber, 1939 = Phycus breviscapus Brunetti, 1929; Paraphycus piceus Becker, 1923 = Phycus rufofemoratus Kröber, 1913; Phycus bicinctus Kröber, 1924 = Phycus marginatus Kröber, 1912; Phycus sobrinus Brunetti, 1929 = Phycus marginatus Kröber, 1912.</jats:p> </jats:sec>
