Th is conference was organised by Jan Waszink and Marc van der Poel within the framework of Jan Waszink’s post-doc project on the Annales et Historiae (further: AH). Th e aim of the conference was to call attention, as is not often done, to philological approaches to Grotius’s works and the results that can be obtained through them. Th e AH provides an excellent starting point for such an approach. In this work, literature, history and politics are tightly interwoven, so that an understanding of Grotius’s literary aims and ambitions contributes directly to that of his political purposes and their context, and vice versa. Th e main question for this meeting was: what does Grotius’s imitation of Tacitus actually look like? http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Grotiana Brill
