(Constitutional Law) Professor Hazard Doctor Honoris Causa On 21 May 1975 Professor John Hazard received the honorary degree of doctor of law on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the University of Leiden. The following short tribute was made by professor Feldbrugge, when he presented the diploma on behalf of the College of Deans. "When you, Professor Hazard, studied law in Moscow during the fateful years of the mid-thirties, it would have been hard to foresee the significance Soviet law . was to acquire as the model for new legal systems in many parts of the world. It would have been even more difficult to foresee that legality and the rule of law were to become the most crucial and dramatic issues in the internal life of that great country. The awareness of these things would not have been possible without your pioneering effort-the work of many years, done with academic detachment, a deep sense of justice and quiet wisdom.
