The Small Nations of the North in International and Constitutional Law

The Small Nations of the North in International and Constitutional Law THE SMALL NATIONS OF THE NORTH IN INTERNATIONAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL LAW A Seminar on The Small Nations of the North in International and Constitutional Law was held in June 1980 in Mariehamn, Aland. Most of the thirty participants were lawyers, but there were also some political and social scientists among them. All the Nordic countries (except Greenland) were represented. There were also a few participants from Canada. The seminar was arranged by the Swedish Institute of International Law (SIFIR) of Uppsala University in co-operation with Aland Summer University. The purpose of the seminar was to throw light on basic legal questions concerning Aland, the Faroe Islands (F0'royar), Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat), and the Lapps, or the Sami people, as they are now known. The idea was to map similarities and differences, and to explore which improvements may be feasible, as a result of a comparison of the various systems. The seminar took place in the Autonomy House (Självstyrelsegården) in Marie- hamn, where the Province Parliament and Government of Aland were hospitable hosts. A number of the papers read at the seminar are reproduced on the following pages. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Nordic Journal of International Law Brill
