This group consists of six species described by Thorne (1939), namely A. cho- ristum, A. crassum, A. gigas, A. micans, A. serpens and A. solitare, and a seventh species, A. thornei, described by Hechler (1969). Most of them have not been reported from other places than the type locality. This third paper of the series on the genus Axonchium Cobb, 1920, deals with those species that possess a vaginal sclerotization and a disc-like structure between vulva and vagina. In this group belong Axonchium choristum, A. crassum, A.gigas, A. micans, A. serpens, A. solitare and A. thornei.
