OBSERVATIONS ON THE GENERA BOLEODORUS AND BOLEODOROIDES (NEMATODA: TYLENCHIDA) BY E. GERAERT Instituut voor Dierkunde, Ledeganckstraat 35, Gent, Belgium Eleven species of Boleodorus and two species of Boleodoroides have been compared with large populations belonging to these genera from Belgium, Iran and the U.S.A. The differences used to distinguish the various described species are evaluated. The species B. clavicaudatus Thorne, 1941 is brought back to the genus Boleodorus, B. hyderi and B. similis are synonymized with B. thylactus. Boleodorus is the only genus within the subfamily Boleodorinae Khan, 1964. The genus Boleodorus was created in 1941 by Thorne, to contain two species B. thylactus and B. clavicaudatus. From 1963 onwards several species were added; unfortunately two of them bear the same name so a new name is proposed for the last described species. The genus Boleodoroides Mathur, E. Khan & S. K. Prasad, 1966 was differen- tiated from Boleodorus mainly by the location of the median oesophageal bulb and also by the tail-shape and the body-shape. The species Boleodorus clavicaudatus Thorne, 1941 was transferred to that genus; Thorne approved of this change (Thorne & Malek, 1968). Nominal species included in the genus Boleodorus: B. acutus Thorne & Malek,
