GERAERT Laboratorium voor Morfologie, Instituut voor Dierkunde, Rijksuniversiteit Gent, Belgium A study of some smaller Tylenchs shows that some of them have large and unexpected forms of amphidial apertures. A general review, describing hitherto unreported forms is presented. Remarks on different aspects of the lip-region are given separately. The genus P.rilenchu.r as defined by Thorne, 1949 and the males of Meloidogyne, are known to have slit-like amphidial apertures that are segments of chords. A more oblique position was recorded for Tyle;zchus grami?ao?hzlu.r (Siddiqi, 1959) Goodey, 1963 and for Boleodorus volutu.r Lima & Siddiqi, 1963. An oval amphidial aperture occurs in Dolichodoru.r Jilvestris Adams, 1963 and is directed radially. As the amphidial apertures in most other Tylenchs have been reported as minute and pore-like, the cases mentioned above have always been considered interesting exceptions. A study of some smaller Tylenchs, shows that other and unexpected forms of amphidial apertures occur.
