Telotylenchus Whitei N. Sp. From S. Australia With Observations On Telotylenchus Hastulatus (Colbran 1960) N. Comb

Telotylenchus Whitei N. Sp. From S. Australia With Observations On Telotylenchus Hastulatus... TELOTYLENCHUS WHITEI N. SP. FROM S. AUSTRALIA WITH OBSERVATIONS ON TELOTYLENCHUS HASTULATUS (COLBRAN 1960) N. COMB. BY J. M. FISHER Department of Plant Pathology, Waite Agricultural Research Institute, South Australia Telotylenchus whitei n. sp. from South Australia is described. It differs from other Telotylenchus species by having a lip cap and very long stylet. Because of these differences the generic diagnosis of Telotylenchus Siddiqi, 1960 is emended. Telotylenchus hastulatus (Colbran, 1960) n. comb. is proposed because it lacks a lip cap, four grooves dividing the lips into lobes, has a long stylet, a single line in the lateral field, a female tail longer than three anal body diameters and cuticularised plates about the male cloaca. In 1957, numerous males and females of an undescribed nematode were found in soil around the roots of Acacia arinata R. Br. on the bank of Timber Creek, Kangaroo Island, South Australia. It was thought that possibly they belonged to the genus Belonolaimus Steiner, 1949, so the opportunity was taken of comparing the nematodes from Kangaroo Island with paratype material of B6'/<9?<3/?/?%? hastulatus Colbran, 1960.
