Ik neem de vryheid myne Heeren, Uw hiermeede onder het oog te brengen, dat gemelde Floris Croese enkeld Titulair Lid by Teekenkunde is, over het Jaar 1804-1805 de contributie van f 11.-. betaald heeft, en thans, volgens opgaave van Directeuren, nog onder die zelve Classe van Leeden by dat Departement behoord. En daar UED wel met my zullen toestemmen dat de wetten ten aanzien der vreem- delingslootjes dienen gehandhaaft te worden, wil men de grootste misbruyken niet zien insluypen, zoo verzoek ik dat UED de noodige ordres geliefd te stellen dat gemelde F: Croese niet meer, onder het Masker van vreemdeling, tot het Concert worde toe- gelaaten. Apropos of a water-colour drawing in the Print Room at Amsterdam, Mr. Knoef publishes here some facts regarding the painter of it, his life and work, which a research in the Archives have yielded. Born at Amsterdam on 12th October 1763, Croese was a pupil of J. Andriessen and of the Municipal School of Drawing. He illustrated the poems of J. H. van Dongen, but probably did little further practical work of this nature, as he set up in business as a drawing-teacher and art-dealer. He went abroad in 1791 and returned about 1804. Nothing more is known of his further life. - Noord=Nederlandsche Kunstenaars in Gent door B. C. HELBERS. In de poortersboeken van Gent zijn ingeschreven: 15 April 1610.
