Frijhoff have collected papers presented at the symposium held at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam to commem- orate the 450th anniversary of Erasmus' death in 1536. T h e editors hope "... t h a t these contributions...will prove something of a milestone in the co-or- dination of Erasmus research." Certainly the contributions call a t t e n t i o n to ever increasing material and research which need to be incorporated into our understanding and reinterpretation n o t only of Erasmus b u t of Europe in the era of reform. T h e editors have kept in publication the broad headings sug- gested at the invitation to their conference contributors: "Power Relations," "Education and the World of Learning" and "Images" (at first " T h e Erasmian Tradition"). Several papers are parts of larger projects, and all here are per- force very short.
