Th is monograph forms a continuation of previous research, that of David Biale as well as of others. Following Israel Jacob Yuval ( Shnei goyim be-vitnech: yehudim ve-notsrim—dimuyim hadadiyim , 2000 /Two Nations in your Womb: Perceptions of Jews and Christians in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages , 2006) and Daniel Boyarin ( Border Lines: the Partition of Judaeo-Christianity , 2004), Biale investigates how a particular theological development within Judaism and Christianity has been shaped by the proximity and exchange of ideas between the two traditions. Like in his earlier monograph on sexuality in Jewish tradition, Eros and the Jews , he analyses how a specifi c theme in Judaism, the symbol of blood, evolves over time due to internal and external factors, and follows his topic from the Hebrew Bible nearly up to the present.
