Unlike Germany, that commemorated this fact with large symposia and a diversity of publications, the Netherlands barely paid attention to it. The symposium held on the th of March  at the Christian Reformed University of Theology in Apeldoorn was an exception. Five theologians, who all studied at this University, held lectures about Ger- hardt’s life, work, and reception of his hymns during this symposium. These lectures were published in  in a seventy-paged booklet as part  of the series “Apeldoornse Studies.” Christa Boerke, church historian, gives a compact and good biography of Gerhardt. She also describes his theology on the base of Gerhardt’s  surviving hymns.
