DE VERHEFFING DER KERSPELKERK VAN BATENBURG TOT EENE KAPITTELKERK. MEDEGEDEELD DOOR Dr. J. S. VAN VEEN. Batenburg behoorde oudtijds tot het aartsbisdom Eeu- len, aartsdekenaat Xanten en dekenaat Zifflich (later Nyme- gen). Dit dekenaat omvatte het Rijk van Nymegen en het ambt van Maas en Waal. Bij de oprichting van het bis- dom Roermond werd het dekenaat Nymegen daarbij ge- voegd en in 1853 na tal van lotswisselingen bij het bisdom 's Hertogenbosch. Dr. Binterim heeft medegedeeld en Schutjes in zijn Geschiedenis van het bisdom 's Hertogen- bosch heeft van hem overgenomen (I, blz. 185) een ,IAber ' procurationum et petitionum archidiaconi Xantensis", waarin over Batenburg o. a. het volgende voorkomt: ,Istae tres ecclesiae, Batenborg, Bomell) et Horsen, sunt incorporatae ecclesiae collegiatae de Badenborg, et ut praepositus Sanctensis pro tum dictae incorporationi fiendae consentiret, Decanus et Capitulum dictae ecclesiae de B. ordinarant domino praeposito Xantensi singulis 1) Maasbommel. 306 annis IX florenos rhenenses in festo b. Petri ad Cathe- dram persolvendos". Dit is, voorzoover ik kan nagaan, alles wat men van de verheffing der Batenburgsche kerk tot kapittelkerk weet. Zelfs de tijd is niet dan globaal bekend. Schutjes toch zegt (III, blz. 196): "Men wil de oprigting van
