PREFACE Ulrich Mauser This volume contains, aside from the Reviews section, the contributions delivered at the second annual Pittsburgh Biblical Colloquium which met October 11-12, 1985 to dis- cuss Biblical Apocalypticism under the Colloquium title "A New Heaven And A New Earth." The continuing threat of "apocalyptic" dimension to the continuance of human civilization as we know it, the enduring impact of popular exploitations of Biblical apoca- lyptic on large segments of the population, the strong revival of scholarly interest and work in the area of apocalyptic writings, and a renewed dedication to an understanding of apocalyptic sections in both Old and New Testament in the medium of our own language about God, the universe, and the history and destiny of humanity - all that combined to suggest the usefulness of a colloquium on the understanding and interpretation of apocalyptic in the Bible, whose results are here brought together.
