<jats:sec><jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p><title> RIASSUNTO </title>La livella a bolla e l'orizzonte artificiale non sono stati studiati dettagliatamente nei testi moderni sulla strumentaria. L'articolo esamina il contesto in cui Thévenot ideò i due strumenti e analizza il primo sviluppo della livella a bolla. Si cerca così di dimostrare che, contrariamente a quanto si asserisce, l'uso di tale strumento non fu poco diffuso. Infine se ne discute l'impiego come orizzonte artificiale mettendolo in relazione con il contesto che lo produsse.</jats:p> </jats:sec>
