Prof. Garnik Asatrian, seit mehr als 15 Jahren Leiter des Lehrstuhls für Iranistik an der Staatlichen Universität Jerewan, Begründer und Chefredakteur von Iran and the Caucasus, sowie anerkannter Spezialist für iranische Dialekte hat über die letzten drei Jahrzehnte in dutzenden Publikationen seine tiefe Einsicht in die sprachlichen, ethnologischen und politischen Zusammenhänge Irans dokumentiert. Die Lektüre des vorliegenden, auf Russisch verfassten Buches, erschienen unter dem englischen Nebentitel "Ethnic Composition of Iran" als zweiter Band der Reihe Yerevan Series for Oriental Studies lässt uns somit auf eine grundlegende Erweiterung unseres Wissens hinsichtlich des Zusammspieles von ethno-linguistischen und sozio-politischen Faktoren im zeitgenössischen Iran hoffen. Um es gleich vorweg zu nehmen, unsere Erwartung wird vom Autor nicht enttäuscht. Das Buch unterteilt sich in Einleitung, sieben Kapitel und ein Resümee.
