Spoken across the territory of southern and western regions of Afghanistan, Pashto is currently one of the country’s official languages, together with Dari. It is also prominent in the north- western regions of Pakistan, formerly known as North-Western Frontier Province and recently renamed Pashtunistan Khaibar province. This large area is inhabited predominantly by the Pashtuns, a people of East- ern Iranian origin, who still retain their tribal divisions and call their lands Pashtunkhva , the country of Pashtuns.
