Letter from the President

Letter from the President 133 Letter from the President Dear Friend and Colleague, I am happy to greet every one of you on behalf of the new Executive and assure you of our commitment to facilitate the progress of mission studies. The successful Congress that we have had in the pleasant and beautiful surroundings of Hawaii is evidence of the hard work of preparation and stewardship of John Pobee and his team. I take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to all of them. - The text of the addresses and of the various reports will appear in a special issue of MISSION STUDIES and will give you some idea of what happened at the Congress. But they can hardly convey the spirit of fellowship and joy, dedication and vigorous participation that lay behind its success. We are particularly grateful to Joan Chatfield and her local helpers, to Dr. Kosuke Koyama for his challenging keynote address, to Ana Langerak, Jean Stromberg and Edith Bernard for ani- mating our worship and reflection and to the many (too numerous to mention) leaders and resource persons of workshops and projects, authors of papers, chair persons and reporters. May God be praised for being with us. We missed David Bosch, but I am sure that he accompanied us in the Spirit. 4Ve discovered a little of the Pacific world. But we felt the absence of more Orthodox friends, of Eastern Europe and of the Middle East. The global nature of the challenges of mission today does call for increasing international fellowship in mission studies. I invite all of you to use this forum of MISSION STUDIES to share your projects and experiences, activities and research so that our col- laboration is real and ongoing, and not merely from one Congress to another. This volume carries some of the forum papers presented at the Hawaii Conference. In fellowship, ' Michael Amaladoss, S. Abstract

133 Letter from the President Dear Friend and Colleague, I am happy to greet every one of you on behalf of the new Executive and assure you of our commitment to facilitate the progress of mission studies.
