An Emerging Cosmotheandric Religion? Raimon Panikkar's Pluralistic Theology of Religions

An Emerging Cosmotheandric Religion? Raimon Panikkar's Pluralistic Theology of Religions Book Reviews / Mission Studies 24 (2007) 333–364 343 An Emerging Cosmotheandric Religion? Raimon Panikkar’s Pluralistic Th eology of Religions. By Jyri Komulainen. Leiden, Brill 2005. Pp. ix + 234. $139.00. Originally a 2003 doctoral dissertation at the University of Helsinski, this work has all the literary earmarks of the genre, so that only the most deter- mined scholar and a conscientious reviewer will persevere in perusing it from cover to cover. As its subtitle indicates, it is a study of Raimon Panikkar’s the- ology of religions. True to form, the introduction contains a brief presentation of contemporary theology of religions (i.e., exclusivism, inclusivism, plural- ism, and post-pluralism) as the context in which to situate Panikkar’s thought. Obligatory sections follow on “sources and method of study,” on “previous research on Panikkar” (which of course is found wanting in one aspect or another, thus justifying the need of this doctoral dissertation!), and on the contents of various chapters. Chapter 2 discusses the “starting-points of Panikkar’s theology,” which has a “locus theologicus” (i.e., the meeting of religions) and a “modus theologicus” (Panikkar’s understanding of inter-religious dialogue as “dialogical dialogue”). Chapter 3 focuses on Panikkar’s philosophy of reality as radically pluralistic, which http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Mission Studies Brill
