Goizueta, holder of the Margaret O’Brein Flatly Chair in Catholic Theology at Boston College, offers in his book different essays for a reflection on the aesthetic of the Latino/a Theology. He gives reasons for an innovative perspective in one of the most significant theological movements in the USA that reinterprets the classic themes of theology from the context of the Latino groups in the USA. Ecumenical orientation and reflections from the popular Catholicism that remain, among others, in Puerto Ricans and Cuban neighborhoods have given rise to a rich reflection on faith and life of ethnic minorities, groups of exiles and migrants. An example of this rich theological movement is the Mujerista Theology, started by Ada María Isasi-Díaz, recently deceased, and various projects coordinated by the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACHTUS). As starting point Goizueta takes the Biblical notion of John’s ‘God loved us first’ (p. x) that he interprets from other Latino/a theologians such as Virgilio Elizondo and Justo González, and liberation theologians as Gustavo Gutiérrez and Diego Irarrázaval. In particularly his reflections are inspired on the theological aesthetics of Hans Urs van Balthasar.
